When I had the assignment about to write the definition of creativity in the beginning of this semester, I researched several people who are creative, and I made my definition. My definition of creativity is the person or new ideas that are created from people’s originality and personality, and improves and develops our society better. From this definition I can tell you that every person is creative, because creativity is the human nature. And I also can tell you that creativity and genius are very similar. But it is not easy to be genius.

Every person is already creative, because we are always thinking and devising something and creating a lot of new ideas in unconsciously in daily life. For example, a businessman is thinking a new original project that has never been thought, a housewife is thinking how to cook cheap and delicious meals for her family. Humans have devised somethings since a long time ago, people invented fire. Time went on. From fire people developed electrical light and developing society better. Since then creativity is human nature, so every human is creative.

I said that creativity and genius are similar, but it is not easy to be genius. For example, Vincent van Gogh was the impressionist painter who had a far-reaching influence on 20^th century art. However he wasn’t famous when he was alive, also he was able to sell only one picture in his life. He committed suicide when he was 37.He has been famous after he died. Why he is famous now? How he went from creative to being considered genius? He’s personality, idea, or his way did not change since he wasn’t famous. People around him have changed.  This evidence shows that every person is creative. Also creativity and genius is very similar, but it is not easy to be genius. Because when we as a society admit someone is genius, most people think that person or their ideas are meaningful and valuable. Everyone wants new ideas or material that genius people come up with.

In conclusion, every human is creative. And we as a society choose the person or ideas that they think it’s meaningful and valuable and recognize them as genius. Therefore who is considered as genius is always change by time, because we as a society’s needs and their value decide who is genius.

From the blog for last week, I wrote the definition of genius. That is the person or ideas that have never been thought or created by people. Also genius people are received acceptance by we as a society that you are genius. And most people think that genius person or ideas are really wonderful. I can imagine many people who are genius, and this time I chose Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) He was a representative post-impressionist painter that is rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. His works had a far-reaching influence on 20^th century. He fits to my definition of genius.

 First, He was a representative post-impressionist painter, and he was the pioneer of the impressionism. This evidence shows that he created ideas and works that people have never been thought and created.

Second, His life proves my definition of genius. He produced more than 2,100 artworks, consisting of 860 oil paints and more than 1300 watercolors, sketches, drawings and prints. However he wasn’t famous when he was alive, also he was able to sell only one picture in his life. He committed suicide when he was 37.He has been famous after he died. Why is he considered to be genius now? His personality, his idea, his works or his way did not change since he weren’t famous. He is dead. How can he change his work or ideas after he is dead? People around them have changed. Therefore, this evidence shows that genius people are received acceptance by we as a society that you are genius.

Vincent Willem van Gogh’s pieces are very expensive. The most expensive piece was 13 billion dollar in 2008. This evidence also proves how people are thinking that he’s art is wonderful and desirable. 

Genius person or ideas

My definition of genius is the person or ideas that have never been thought or created by people. Also genius people are recognized by we as a society that you are genius. And most people usually think that genius person or ideas are really wonderful. I think one of the genius people is Lady Gaga. She is a famous singer and composer all over the world. I have two reasons that why she is a genius person, her fashion and her thought through her lyrics. First, her fashion is very creative. She wears various kinds of unique cloths such as bubble clothes, clothes like shell, and so on. This example shows that she created new fashion that people never thought. However once she wears the beef meat clothes and received bad fashion award or something, but overall I think her fashion is good.

Second is her lyrics. She often includes her thought in her lyrics.  When most artists create songs, over 95% of their lyrics are about love.  However Lady Gaga’s lyrics are every times includes several areas such as religion, love, philosophy and so on. Her ideas about to include her thought in lyrics aren’t so amazing ideas, because may be some artists thought to do same ideas. But it is not easy to be a popular song without love lyrics. Lady Gaga is able to catch the listener’s attention with her music and lyrics with several areas except love. Her thoughts through the lyrics are really creative. Lady gaga is a genius.

Education

Whether Education kills creativity or not is depends on the education system. Most of students receive compulsory education, and I think Japanese compulsory education kill students creativity, because Japanese compulsory education determine who is better person with test score or knowledge, also they often constrain to students the thought, behavior, or rules. If students made mistakes, or did something wrong from the rules, teacher gets really angry.  For example, when I was studying in elementary school, teacher told us to draw a mountain and cherry blossoms. I tried to draw a mountain with green color and cherry blossom with a lot of little pink flower. But the teacher told us to draw a mountain with blue little dots, and cherry blossoms with pink little dots. I asked to the teacher why does a mountain need to be blue? Also I said flower is not dots. The teacher was disagreeably surprised and she got angry. It has been 13 years past from this memory, but I still don’t understand why she got angry. Finally, student pictures were posted on the wall, and they were all same pictures. Therefore this education killed student ideas, imaginations and characters that are important to be creative. However every education does not kill creativity, because there is several kinds of education, science, art, music, dance and so on.  The important thing to be creative is to choose the education by yourself that you interested in and, which can find your character or talent and help to improve these. For instance, I chose to study in America, because I wanted to study music and other subjects, but in Japan we can’t study music and other subjects like business or law in same school. So we need to choose a music college or a university. I hate this system. I always try to choose the education that looks good for my future, and this is my way to be creative as a student.
